“[Artistic] mastery is the best goal because the rich can’t buy it, the impatient can’t rush it, the privileged can’t inherit it, and nobody can steal it. You can only earn it through hard work. Mastery is the ultimate status.”
— Derek Sivers
I don’t usually say much when sending my Quotes of The Week. But I figured I should give the backstory of why I sent a picture that wasn’t a horse with the quote.
Sometimes, I like to just create for the sake of creating. Exploring Ideas and lighting techniques is a lot of fun for me. If I’m busy with life and I can’t get out for an adventure photographing horses somewhere, I will set up a still-life scene that I think could look cool in a photograph. It’s excellent practice learning composition and lighting. I compare it to scratching an itch, but only in this case, it is an artistic one.
I would like to do more of this kind of work down the road when I have more time to commit to it. I think it would be a good complement to the horse images. But for now, if you see a still-life Image pop up here or on my social media, you will know what I am up to.
